Browser Wars Graphic

This is certainly the most creative way to show the battle of the browsers in the Internet space.

Browser War Graphic

I stumbled upon this on fffound.com, my favorite source for random images that everyone is buzzing about. I have no idea where it came from but it is a little out of date with the lack of Google’s Chrome in the mix.

Graphic Blandishment? What’s That?

A Charlie Brown Christmas was on TV tonight and I noticed the term “Graphic Blandishment” in the credit. Turning to the trusty Internets I found out

“Graphic Blandishment is a term also known as “Animation”. Charles M. Schultz used that term in his Peanuts/Charlie Brown Animation Credits to credit the Animators.” – WikiAnswers

It seems Mr. Schultz wasn’t a fan of hand-drawn motion pictures.

After the 1965 version there was a newer version which was downright-lame. So instead I went to YouTube and found this NSFW remix. And when they say NSFW, they really mean NSFW.

Fix Loose Screws In Wood With A Match

This weekend my roommates ventured to a Linens-N-Things store for a going out of business sale. They ended up bringing home a Kitty Litter Hideaway cabinet. Why did they buy it? Who knows. Puck sure hasn’t taken to it unless there is a treat inside.

As they were putting the unit together they realized they made a mistake. The trouble with these cheap furniture pieces is they aren’t made for mistakes. By unscrewing the pieces from each other, the pre-drilled hole no longer gripped the screw. Luckily I learned this little screw-tightening trick from my dad. Take a match and break it off so it is even with the screw hole. When you screw the screw back in the wood the match tightens everything up. Great for these self-assembly furniture items.

A Halloween Fit For A King

The roomies and I decided to throw a Halloween bash this year after carving our pumpkins. As hosts of the shin dig we knew we had to have the most elaborate costumes. Kristina spent all week sewing our King and Queen of Hearts costumes out of old clothes and fabric from the thrift store. You can read more about how she brought everything together at RussellandKristina.com but the results speak for themselves.

Our roommates dressed up as a cop and a Mexican. Their costumes provided lots of laughs.

Our friend Pammy and Chris took the laid-back approach going as McCain and Palin via the Chicago Tribune campaign 2008 masks.

But by far the most interesting costume of the night went to Matt and Toni. At first we thought they were a yellow tear drop and a bear but later we realized they were pee and poop.

We didn’t get any trick-or-treaters but we still had a great time hanging out, eating lots of candy, and playing a rousing game of Apples to Apples.

Free Chipotle Burrito On Halloween

A little rumor has made it’s way around the interwebs that if you dress up like a burrito on Halloween then you will get one free. According to some other sites this rumor is indeed true but only after 5 or 6pm until closing. There doesn’t seem to be any kind of official promo from Chipotle so what constitutes a burrito costume is up for debate. Some think you need to wrap yourself up from head to toe while others say a simple aluminum foil hat will suffice. Whatever the case may be it is certainly worth the risk if it means a free burrito. Maybe you will even pick up a hot tabasco chick like this guy.

Mr. Peanut In Times Square FAIL!

My trip to New York city two weekends ago was exciting. This was the first time I have visited the city and my first time seeing Times Square. The sheer number of blinking lights and large screens was slightly more puzzling than the throng of people who sought out these ads.

One ad that made me smile was the Mr. Peanut sign not because Mr. Peanut is warm and friendly but because it had a glaring Windows DOS screen on display:

Mr Peanut In Times Square FAIL

This is what the sign is supposed to look like.

Overall New York city was nice to visit but way too expensive and crowded to ever consider living there.

Our Pumpkins Are Carved For Halloween

Roommates carving pumpkins for Halloween

Tonight the roommates and I carved our pumpkins for Halloween. We put out cut up paper bags on the dining room table and proceeded to extract the orange, stringy pumpkin guts. We each picked our own design and sat in silence for about an hour as we patiently cut out the pieces. They all came out great.

Four Carved Pumpkins

My pumpkin featured a portrait of Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas. The template was made by Frank Jonen who made a 3D model to make sure it would work.

The New Apple Cinema Display Sure Looks Familiar…

Apple announced a new 24″ Cinema Display today at their press event. Besides looking like a gutted iMac, the display shares a similar look to the HP w2007 20-inch widescreen monitor.

The Complete Illustrated ACME Catalog

Remember the ACME Corporation from those old Looney Toons cartoons? Well leave it up someone on the Internet with way too much time on their hands to catalog every occurrence of an ACME product in a cartoon, complete with screen grabs.

ACME Corporation - Makers of EVERYTHING!

So the next time you need to know where an ACME Strait-Jacket Ejecting Bazooka was used or what an ACME Ultimatum Dispatcher looks like, you know where to turn to. And surprisingly it’s not a Wikipedia article.
